Green Fittonia, also known as the Nerve Plant, is a compact tropical foliage plant admired for its bright green leaves highlighted with contrasting white veins. It is a low-growing, humidity-loving plant that is perfect for terrariums, tabletops, office desks, and indoor décor. Its lush appearance makes it a popular choice for small spaces.
Green Fittonia grows best in bright indirect light to partial shade.
Avoid direct sunlight as it can scorch the delicate leaves. It also performs well under artificial indoor lighting.
This plant prefers moderate temperatures between 18°C to 26°C.
It thrives in high humidity, making it ideal for terrariums, kitchens, and bathrooms. Regular misting helps maintain healthy foliage.
Use well-draining, moisture-retentive soil.
A mix of garden soil + cocopeat + perlite works well.
Ensure the pot has drainage holes to prevent waterlogging.
Keep the soil consistently moist but not soggy.
Do not allow the soil to dry out completely, as Fittonia may wilt quickly.
Water when the top layer feels slightly dry.
Feed with a diluted balanced liquid fertilizer once every 3–4 weeks during the growing season for lush growth.
Green Fittonia can be propagated through:
Stem cuttings in water
Stem cuttings in soil
It roots quickly in warm and humid conditions.
Trim leggy stems to maintain a compact, bushy shape.
Remove yellow or dry leaves regularly.
Generally low-maintenance, but occasionally may get:
Spider mites
Fungus gnats (in overly wet soil)
Maintain proper watering and use neem oil spray if needed.
